If you’re old enough to remember what it was like 20 years ago when DVDs first started to become the premier way to enjoy films at home, you probably have fond memories of all those special features that would come on the discs. And if you’re a big enough film nerd (and if you read this website, I’m guessing you probably are), then you remember listening to the commentary tracks that would come with the disc release. According to Variety, Hulu is planning on releasing a new commentary track that can be viewed on the streaming service for the acclaimed rom-com, “Palm Springs.” The track will feature Andy Samberg and his co-star Cristin Milioti talking about all the various things that went into making the time-loop comedy film that is earning both rave reviews and possible awards consideration. And with this news, it appears that this will be the very first commentary track available on Hulu.
“As far as I know we’re the first,” Samberg said. “We realized that ‘Palm Springs’ will always be on Hulu, which is great, but there are elements of the DVD experience that just don’t exist anymore. They were very amenable in talking about ways to get some fun stuff in there.”

It’s clear why Hulu has chosen “Palm Springs” for the release of its first commentary track. The streaming service is hoping that the stunt will allow for more eyes to watch the film, which the service already claims is its most-watched, and will further the chances of those involved when awards season really kicks into gear in the weeks to come.
Regardless about whether or not the gimmick works on those fronts, if you’re someone that enjoys commentary tracks and enjoyed “Palm Springs,” this is probably good news either way. The commentary is available now.
In honor of the commentary’s release, here’s a new trailer for the feature from Hulu:
