Other than stopping by the Marvel-verse to visit her old pals, and uh, “Mortdecai,” Gwyneth Paltrow has given acting a backseat over the past few years. The actress turned entrepreneur has been focused on Goop, where she sells and talks about cucumber cauliflower extract olive oil or ginseng gust or whatever. However, Paltrow is coming back with a huge series, that will bring her back to an audience around the global in one fell swoop.
Paltrow and Barbra Streisand have signed up to co-star in “Glee,” “American Crime Story” and “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy‘s “The Politician.” Ben Platt (“Dear Evan Hanson“) rounds out the leading trio in his comedy series (with social commentary, naturally) that will revolve around a wealthy Santa Barbarian, who runs for office. So, kind lika “Big Little Lies” meets “House Of Cards” with laughs? Perhaps, but also….with song! The series is also expected to have several musical numbers for some reason, and now we’re both very curious and very cautious.
If you’re wondering what lured Paltrow to the project, she’s engaged to the show’s exec Brad Falchuk, and won an Emmy after guest starring on “Glee,” and proving she had some impressive pipes.
Netflix is already so keen on the concept, they’ve given “The Politician” a straight-to-series order for two seasons. So, it looks some major new #content is on the way from the streaming giant. Murphy will direct the pilot, and I assume we’ll see this show sometime in 2019. [Deadline]
