Paramount CEO Confirms Development Of 'A Quiet Place' Sequel [CinemaCon]

At CinemaCon (which we’ve been covering all week), we’ve gotten sneak peeks at tons of upcoming films from the major studios. One of those studios is Paramount, who recently saw its film “A Quiet Place” shock the world with its box office dominance. As we said a couple weeks ago, “A Quiet Place” is a much-needed hit for the struggling studio, and so it’s no surprise that a sequel is in the works.

Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos told the crowd at CinemaCon that the studio had already begun developing a sequel to the hit horror film. No details were given, particularly about whether or not John Krasinski would be back to helm the feature.

However, Gianopulos was very complimentary toward the actor/director, saying, “It’s the artist with a true vision that makes the improbable happen.” The “improbable” is how a comedic actor, best known for his work on the sitcom “The Office,” could direct and star in what is essentially a silent horror film. Clearly, not only did “A Quiet Place” surprise audiences, it also surprised those executives at the studio.

**Spoilers ahead for “A Quiet Place,” so be warned!**

As far as a potential sequel, Krasinski’s involvement is far from a done deal. First, he’s clearly going to be in-demand and according to reports, already has another film lined up at Paramount. Also, judging by the end of “A Quiet Place,” it doesn’t appear that any sequel would require the director to also star, considering he’s dead and all. Lastly, with how the film ended, there’s not even a guarantee that the rest of his on-screen family survives.

Honestly, it would make the most sense for the film to start fresh with a new set of actors, and probably, a new creative vision behind the camera. However, studios have been known to throw large amounts of money at creators to get them to return, so there’s always the chance that Paramount throws a curveball and surprises everyone with Krasinski’s return.

Guess we’ll find out soon because Paramount is probably rushing this film through production, with the idea of making it their next horror franchise.
