First up, the studio is not messing around with their "Transformers" franchise –– they have set dates for the next three films –– and guess what folks, you’re going to get one per year, starting in 2017: "Transformers 5" will rock your world on June 23, 2017 arriving opposite "Wonder Woman"; "Transformers 6" will bring the business on June 8, 2018 taking on "Godzilla 2"; and "Transformers 7" will batter you into submission on June 28, 2019 where it currently stands alone. That’s a whole lotta robot smashing.
Update in the "Transformers" universe. In a second release, Hasbro announced the “the never-before-heard story of Bumblebee,” is set to arrive June 8, 2018. So that sounds like the "Bumblebee" origin movie is one of the two upcoming "Transformers" films.
Meanwhile, Paramount is snapping up George Clooney‘s "Suburbicon," penned by the Coens. Starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, and Josh Brolin, the dark comedy is ’50s set thriller in the vein of "Blood Simple," about a home invasion that finds a family engaging in blackmail, revenge and betrayal. Yep, I’m in.
Lastly, people keep allowing Vin Diesel to make movies that aren’t "Fast & Furious" and hoping people will show up (remember "The Last Witch Hunter"?). Paramount is banking on "xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage" being a thing. D.J. Caruso is directing the movie that finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Okay, then.
No date has been set for ‘xXx’ just yet, but filming is currently underway. [ComingSoon/Deadline]
