Over the last few years, we’ve seen quite a few big-name filmmakers make the leap onto the small screen for special limited “event” series. The latest to do so is none other than Park Chan-wook. The legendary South Korean filmmaker, responsible for incredible films like “Oldboy,” “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance,” and most recently, “The Handmaiden,” is hitting the small screen for AMC and releasing the highly anticipated “The Little Drummer Girl.”
And while we have to wait until November to watch the six-episode series for ourselves, the network released (via Deadline) a first look at the spy thriller from Chan-wook. “The Little Drummer Girl” tells the story of a young actress vacationing in Greece, when she comes across a mysterious man who brings her into a complex espionage plot.
In the pictures, we are introduced to the main players in this spy thriller, including Alexander Skarsgård, coming off his Emmy-winning role in “Big Little Lies,” Florence Pugh, and Academy Award-nominated Michael Shannon. As you might expect from a project from Chan-wook, it’s clear that “The Little Drummer Girl” has a distinct style that is present even in the still images, with colors just popping.
As mentioned, “The Little Drummer Girl” is expected to hit TV screens this November and is based on the best-selling novel by author John le Carré.
Here’s the synopsis for the novel:
On holiday in Mykonos, Charlie wants only sunny days and a brief escape from England’s bourgeois dreariness. Then a handsome stranger lures the aspiring actress away from her pals—but his intentions are far from romantic. Joseph is an Israeli intelligence officer, and Charlie has been wooed to flush out the leader of a Palestinian terrorist group responsible for a string of deadly bombings. Still uncertain of her own allegiances, she debuts in the role of a lifetime as a double agent in the “theatre of the real.”
