You probably know WorldStarHipHop as the website you can visit to see some of the wildest videos on the Internet. If you don’t know the website, itself, you probably have watched a video with someone yelling in the background, “WorldStar! WorldStar!” Well, now the content service is getting into the filmmaking game with the latest Netflix Original, “The After Party.”
As you can see from the trailer for the film, “The After Party” follows two friends attempting to make it big in the world of hip-hop. While one of the friends is focused mainly on becoming a famous manager, the other is the true talent. However, after a debut that included projectile vomit and an unfortunate seizure, the rapper’s hopes and dreams seem dashed. That all changes when the titular after party comes around with a second chance at stardom.
The film comes from writer-director Ian Edelman, who is probably best known as the writer/creator of the series “How to Make it in America,” but also directed the film “Puerto Ricans in Paris.” Yeah, you probably never heard of that one. But clearly, there’s a lot of star power, at least in the cameos, in “The After Party,” so this could be Edelman’s breakout film.
“The After Party” stars Kyle Harvey, Harrison Holzer, Shelley Hennig, Teyana Taylor, Jordan Rock, Amin Joseph, Andy Buckley and Blair Underwood. But really, as you can see from the trailer, the film is banking on the appearances of real-life artists like Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, and DJ Khaled to get viewers to check the film out.
“The After Party” hits Netflix on August 24.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When an aspiring rapper goes viral for all the wrong reasons, he thinks his career is over. But when his best friend gets them into a wild NYC after party, he gets one more chance to make the impossible happen.
