Patrick Stewart Offers Up A Denial About His Presumed 'Doctor Strange 2' Appearance

If you’re one of the millions of folks who have already scoured the newest trailer for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” you’ve likely been trying to piece together all the hints and teases to see which multiversal variants of your favorite heroes are possibly going to show up in the superhero film. There have been rumors about a new Iron Man, a popular “What If?” character getting a live-action appearance, and even Deadpool showing up. But the trailer seems to blatantly tease the debut of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, aka leader of the X-Men, who has previously shown up in numerous “X-Men” films over at now-defunct Fox. But if you ask Stewart himself, he’s not ready to confirm or deny his appearance in the “Doctor Strange” sequel.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Patrick Stewart, who is out there promoting Season 2 of “Star Trek: Picard,” was asked point-blank if he’s going to show up as Professor X in the upcoming “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” And while he doesn’t confirm the appearance, his denial is a bit weak.

“You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago,” Stewart said. “So, I can’t be held responsible for that.”

Though there are a bunch of interesting images and scenes in the trailer, the moment where you hear someone who sounds an awful lot like Stewart talking about “the truth” has been dissected by eager fans for days now, leading many to think the scene introduces a version of Marvel Comics team, the Illuminati. However, no matter the context, if it is Stewart in the film and he’s reprising his “X-Men” role, this would show that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is, in fact, going to integrate the Fox universe of Marvel films and signal that, in at least one universe, the X-Men exist.

Obviously, we still have months until “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” arrives in theaters, so there will be more teases and hints in the marketing footage still to come. So, we’ll have to wait and see how long Stewart is willing to do his best Andrew Garfield and continue to deny what seems like the obvious.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” arrives in theaters on May 6.
