After spending a year taking punches from superdorks on the internet over “Ghostbusters,” it’s good to know that Paul Feig isn’t giving up on movies or on his dedication to shining a light on hilarious female talent. And the filmmaker looks to be pivoting toward his next project which will do just that, in a movie that match up rising talent and with a beloved veteran.
Variety reports that Feig is in serious talks to direct a Mindy Kaling-penned project (that she will also star in) that centers around a veteran late-night talk host (to be played by Emma Thompson), who risks losing her job when she hires the show’s first female writer. It’s an arena Feig is familiar with given his extensive experience in television, and it sounds like a pretty good match all around.
The ink isn’t dry on any contracts yet, but it sounds like it’s headed that way. No word yet on when it will shoot, but the movie will first have to wait for Kaling to wrap her duties on “Ocean’s 8,” which is now filming in New York City.
