Paul Feig Joins Soderbergh, Fuqua, Spielberg & More With New Projects On Quibi Streaming Service

Odds are, until recently, you probably didn’t even know what the hell Quibi is. In fact, there are many people reading this that still don’t have a clue what I’m talking about. But thanks to filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and Steven Soderbergh, Quibi is making some waves over the last few days. And now the mobile streaming service is adding another filmmaker to its ranks — Paul Feig.

According to THR, Feig is developing some projects for Jeffrey Katzenberg’s upcoming streaming venture, Quibi. What makes Quibi so interesting, and completely different than the big streamers like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, is the fact that all the original content for the service is being developed with mobile watching in mind. The series and films that are released on the service will be chopped up into bite-sized, 7-to-10-minute chunks that are easily digestible while on the subway, in a cab, at a boring family event, on the toilet, or wherever you enjoy watching your streaming content.

“I’ve talked to Jeffrey and we have a couple projects we’re in stages of development on,” said Feig.

Paul Feig is the filmmaker behind such film and TV projects as “Freaks and Geeks,” “Bridesmaids,” “Spy,” and the recent “Ghostbusters” reboot. He’s currently finishing up work on a new rom-com starring Emilia Clarke and “Crazy Rich Asians” star Henry Golding.

He added, “It’s exciting that shortform is getting another crack. It was kind of dead for a long time, because there was no market for it. Now, because there’s so much stuff out there, this shortform content you watch on your phone that you watch for 10 minutes, that’s really important now.”

No word on what Feig will be producing for Quibi. As mentioned, his projects will join Soderbergh’s upcoming experimental work, Spielberg’s ‘After Dark’ horror series, and a new film from Antoine Fuqua titled “#Freerayshawn,” starring Stephen James and Laurence Fishburne.
