Pedro Almodovar likes to use talent who have worked with him before, from picture to picture if possible, and his next film, "Standby Lovers," ("Los amantes pasajeros") is proving to be no different. Thus far Lola Duenas ("Volver"), Cecilia Roth ("All About My Mother") and Javier Camara ("Talk To Her") are all part of the cast with Spanish comedians Carlos Areces and Raul Arevalo along with Jose Maria Yazpik rounding things out. But Almodovar isn't done putting together the actors for his movie, and once again he's gone into his contacts.
Paz Vega, who featured in "Talk To Her," has joined the film, about which details are being kept under wraps. American audiences might know her from the arthouse hit "Sex & Lucia" or from more mainstream affairs like James L. Brooks' "Spanglish" or Frank Miller's "The Spirit," but frankly, Hollywood has never served her well. And considering that Almodovar writes great characters for women, this will probably be the best thing she's done in a while. But like we mentioned, details are being kept close to the chest, but the film is said to be a return to the director's earlier comedic efforts.
Production on the film will kick off this summer and we'd guess this means a return to Cannes next spring. [Variety]
