It appears we now know who’s going to be under the mask in the “Star Wars” live-action series “The Mandalorian.”
Variety is reporting that “Game of Thrones” star Pedro Pascal is in negotiations to star in the upcoming Disney+ streaming series. It’s assumed that Pascal will play the “lone gunfighter” character that was teased in the released synopsis. “The Mandalorian” takes place between the fall of the Empire (‘Return of the Jedi’) and the emergence of the First Order (‘The Force Awakens’) and follows the aforementioned character and his adventures in the outermost reaches of the galaxy far, far away.
Pascal is probably best known for his show-stealing performance in “Game of Thrones,” but has also been making a name for himself elsewhere. He starred as Javier Pena in the Netflix hit series “Narcos,” and appeared as a cowboy spy in “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.” Pascal, most recently, was seen in “The Equalizer 2,” and will have a role in the upcoming Barry Jenkins film “If Beale Street Could Talk.” Next year, he’ll be seen in “Triple Frontier,” as well as the highly-anticipated film “Wonder Woman 1984.”
“The Mandalorian” comes from the mind of writer/creator Jon Favreau, who also produces the series. Favreau has enlisted an all-star crew of directors to helm episodes of the sci-fi/fantasy show, including Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Dave Filoni, and Deborah Chow.

There’s no word on a release date for the series, but production is said to be underway soon. One thing is for sure, “The Mandalorian” won’t premiere before Disney+ launches in “late 2019.”
