People Are Suing Universal Because Ana de Armas Was Cut Out Of 'Yesterday'

Film fans might get so upset with a film, they wish they could sue the studio for releasing it. Mostly, this comes up when you see something so offensively bad, you just want your money back and you want the studio to pay. But how about suing a movie studio because one actress you really like isn’t included in the final cut? That’s what is happening in the new lawsuit between two film fans and Universal over the final cut of “Yesterday.”

According to Variety, two people in California are suing Universal, the studio that released “Yesterday,” because Danny Boyle’s Beatles musical drama doesn’t include Ana de Armas in the final cut. The basis for the lawsuit is false advertising, as the trailer for “Yesterday” that is available on Amazon Prime Video shows de Armas, but the finished film, when the two guys rented it from the streaming service, doesn’t include the actress’ scenes.

The lawsuit states, “Because consumers were promised a movie with Ana De Armas by the trailer for ‘Yesterday,’ but did not receive a movie with any appearance of Ana de Armas at all, such consumers were not provided with any value for their rental or purchase.”

The lawsuit asks for $5 million to be paid to those who were harmed by the false advertising. Because, you know, you didn’t get the Ana de Armas goodness you were somehow promised.

This all stems from the fact that de Armas filmed scenes that would have happened when the main character of “Yesterday,” Jack Malik (Himesh Patel), was supposed to meet de Armas’ character on the set of James Corden’s talk show. Ultimately, the scenes were cut from the finished film and de Armas appeared only in the trailer.

Is this enough to win a court case? I’m no lawyer, but this sounds like an easy dismissal, right? We’ll just have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, the power of Ana de Armas is very strong. Strong enough to make grown adults do very silly things.
