'Doctor Who's' Peter Capaldi & 'SNL' Star Pete Davidson Eyed To Join James Gunn's Eclectic 'Suicide Squad'

If you’re a fan of superhero films, you can’t help but be a bit mixed about the upcoming James Gunn film “The Suicide Squad.” Sure, the film has Gunn’s name all over it, and he’s proven his worth with his two ‘Guardians’ films over at Marvel. But this is still ‘Suicide Squad’ and David Ayer and Warner Bros. did a fine job of screwing the franchise up in the first film from 2016. Regardless of what your thoughts are for the upcoming film, good or bad, one thing is undeniable — Gunn is putting together one of the most interesting casts to assemble for a superhero film to date.

According to Deadline, Gunn is on the verge of adding two more names to his ever-growing list of actors joining “The Suicide Squad.” “Doctor Who” vet Peter Capaldi is reportedly joining the group, in an unnamed role. And adding even more “WTF?” intrigue to the proceedings is ‘SNL’ star Pete Davidson, who is reportedly being looked at for a cameo in the film.

If you’ve seen the aforementioned, dumpster fire “Suicide Squad,” you know that the premise sees a bunch of villains being forced to team up for a mission that will almost assuredly end in their collective demise. And to ensure that they stick to the game plan, the ‘Squad’ is implanted with bombs that will go off if they break from the group. So, yes, the name sort of hits the nail on the head, right?

If this new bit of casting all pans out, Capaldi and Davidson will join the returning group of ‘Squad’ members including Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis. The cast is being supplemented with a truly eclectic mix of new faces, such as Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Flula Borg, Steve Agee, Nathan Fillion, and (maybe) Taika Waititi. Sorry, “Avengers: Endgame,” but Gunn might be putting together the most intriguing cast we’ve seen in a tights and capes film.

Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” is set to arrive in theaters on August 6, 2021.
