Peter Stormare To Confront Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'Last Stand'

In the blockbuster world, you’ve got your character actors, your heroes, and your villains. What’s needed beyond that is the random scene stealer, the one who seems like he’s walked off the set of a completely unrelated movie. Who, if a good guy, never seems entirely trustworthy, and if bad, always seems like he’s having a better time than everyone else. Enter Peter Stormare, a guy who’s got more scenery in his stool than Shepperton Studios, who has managed to be shot at, blown up million of times, who has alternately saved, and almost destroyed the world. And now, he’s going up against Arnold Schwarzenegger, as he’s the first co-star announced for Arnie’s upcoming “The Last Stand.”

Stomare will play a “seasoned war veteran” who is hired by a renegade drug cartel leader to snuff out Schwarzenegger’s small-town sheriff. It’s a bit predictable as far as casting announcements, as Stormare does this sort of stuff in his sleep, but apparently Stormare leads an “eight man crew” against Schwarzenegger and his fellow officers. The specific number of bad guys suggest this could be an “Expendables”-like casting decision, with Stormare leading a bunch of familiar faces into battle. May we suggest the bad guys from “Red Heat,” “Commando” and “Kindergarten Cop“?

Stormare, who apparently played “Trashface” on an episode of “Willard” (how did we miss that one?) will next be seen in Jonas Akerlund‘s “Small Apartments” and has substantial roles in “Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters,” “Lockout” and the currently-unscheduled Mel Gibson-starrer, “How I Spent My Summer Vacation.” “The Last Stand” is set for release on January 13, 2013.
