Director Peyton Reed Teases His Involvement In 'The Mandalorian' Season 2

Five years ago, before the release of “Ant-Man,” not many people would have thought that Peyton Reed would become one of the bigger (no pun intended) blockbuster filmmakers working today. But yet, years later, not only has he released two ‘Ant-Man’ films, he’s already signed on for a third and apparently is set to make his mark in the “Star Wars” universe in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian.”

To help celebrate yesterdays’ “Star Wars Day,” Reed took to social media to share an image that appears to be from the set of “The Mandalorian” with the title character’s helmet resting in a director’s chair with Reed’s name on it. I’m not a detective or anything, but that seems like enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to assume that the filmmaker is one of the new directors brought in to helm an episode of the new season of the Disney+ series.

Reed joins already-confirmed director Robert Rodriguez (who had a similar “Star Wars Day” post about “The Mandalorian”) as filmmakers attached to Season 2. It’s clear that Lucasfilm and writer-producer-creator Jon Favreau are continuing the trend of making sure episodes of the live-action “Star Wars” series have some big-name filmmakers attached to them. In the first season, folks such as Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, and Rick Famuyiwa all took the helm.

It’s unclear who else might be joining Reed and Rodriguez behind the camera for Season 2. However, we do know that Season 2 is apparently supposed to be released this October and has already finished filming. The season will also introduce fan-favorite character Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, and she’ll be joined by new additions such as Micheal Biehn in the cast.
