“The Road” has been pushed to 2009 and we’re not the only ones that are extremely bummed about the news. This photo of Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee, the film’s lead principals, pretty much say it all, no? Mortensen looks particularly devastated and morose. “The Road” is a bleak story, but one ultimately about hope and a love story between father and son. It’s an incredible book. It’s probably too late to change its release trajectory now, but maybe we should photoshop something on this picture that says, “Emaciated, starving characters hope to see ‘The Road’ in 2008,” as some sort of futile campaign. Can’t the Weinstein’s save it for Oscar-season 2009 or do they already have a contender there (or possibly a hole to fill in Q1 ’09).
