'Piranha 3D' Sequel Already Moving Forward

What happens when the exploitation B-movie you expect to bomb gets last minute good buzz (you didn’t screen it for critics expecting them to trash it) and makes $10 million in its opening weekend off a $24 million budget?

If you’re Dimension Films you smell, close-enough success and you go, “sequel! sequel sequel!” That’s correct, EW are reporting that Dimension is already moving ahead with a “Piranha 3D” sequel thanks to this weekend’s moderate (non-bomb) success.

“We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving Piranha 3-D, but cheering for it,” producer Mark Canton said. “And it’s fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.”

Director Alexandre Aja looks like he’ll be on board as well and told the magazine about some of his ideas a few weeks back. “We had many ideas, like the full moon party in Thailand — a huge event with like 200,00 young people from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on the beach.”
