'Piranha 3DD' Resurrects Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer & Christopher Lloyd

Katrina Bowden Also To Be Fish Food

If you’re going to vainly continue a franchise that seems well out-of-steam, might as well stick to continuity. Today’s casting announcement seems to confirm that the upcoming “Piranha 3DD” will continue immediately after the events of the last film, with the return of cast members Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and Christopher Lloyd.

The fishy thing about this is that the press release described these characters as “survivors,” but that definition doesn’t really describe Ving Rhames’ character (Scheer, who passes on in a deleted scene, COULD have survived, but his random disappearance in the theatrical cut is bizarre). Rhames discussed an identical twin brother in the “Dawn Of The Dead” remake who then (possibly) showed up in the “Day of the Dead” redo, so perhaps twin brothers is the way to go once more? Lloyd, who was not a part of the last film’s aquatic massacre, is likely returning as the reclusive piranha expert, while Scheer… probably just asked nicely.

Also added to the cast of the currently-filming sequel is Esquire’s Sexiest Woman In The World, Katrina Bowden. Yes, that’s Earth that Esquire is referring to. The plot this time involves the piranhas invading a water park, which means that you’ll now have more reasons to fear the log flume. Under the direction of John Gulager, “Piranha 3DD” opens November 23rd.
