Pixar's 'Up' Opening Cannes Film Festival

Pixar’s animated feature “Up” is opening the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, which marks the first time in the history of the festival that an animated film will open it up. What is even more surprising, and impressive for “Up” is that no animated film since “Dumbo” has even made an appearance has ever opened up the festival before (other animated films that have been at Cannes include, “Waltz With Bashir,” “Fritz the cat,” “Shrek,” “Persepolis,” etc.).

All we know about “Up” is that it centers around a floating house inhabited by a grumpy old man and a young kid. The trailer can be found here. Despite the opening act being an animated flick, 2009 Cannes is looking to have a very solid line-up, with Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience,” and Pedro Almodovar’s “Broken Embraces,” possibly making appearances, just to name a few.
