When “The LEGO Movie” became a massive hit, spawning two spin-offs and an upcoming sequel, it was only a matter of time before studios went to the literal toy box and began figuring out which brands could be the next big thing. That’s really the only reason we can think of to explain the existence of the upcoming “Playmobil: The Movie.”
In the new teaser trailer for the live-action/animated hybrid film, a young woman and her little brother become trapped in the Playmobil world through some wacky hijinks. Now, the girl must venture through all sorts of Playmobil play sets to find her brother. Think “LEGO Movie” but instead of rectangle bricks, this world is more…rounded.

It’s hard to look at “Playmobil: The Movie” without a cynical eye. Clearly, this is a cash grab playing off the success of another children’s toy massive hit animated movie. But is there enough of a story, or any other compelling reason, to justify this film’s existence? That’s the question, and we’ll find out the answer at the tail-end of summer 2019.
The cast for the film includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Jim Gaffigan, Gabriel Bateman, Adam Lambert, Kenan Thompson, Meghan Trainor and Daniel Radcliffe.

When her younger brother Charlie (Gabriel Bateman) unexpectedly disappears into the magical, animated universe of PLAYMOBIL®, unprepared Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy) must go on a quest of a lifetime to bring him home. As she sets off on a fantastic journey across stunning new worlds, Marla teams up with some unlikely and heroic new friends – the smooth-talking food truck driver Del (Jim Gaffigan), the dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher (Daniel Radcliffe), a wholehearted misfit robot, an extravagant fairy-godmother (Meghan Trainor) and many more.
