Poster & New Trailer: The F-'d Up Online Sex Encounters Of 'Downloading Nancy'

We’ll admit we’re kind of mildly intrigued/fascinated with the possibilities of the fucked-up sounding Internet drama, “Downloading Nancy,” which stars Mario Bello as a dissatisfied housewife who goes online to stave off boredom and becomes so engaged in an online relationship (with Jason Patric), she leaves her husband (Rufus Sewell) to pursue a sexually perverse fling. We were interested enough to put it into one of our many 2009 anticipated pieces we ran earlier this year.

Part of of what compels us towards this disturbing film is Jason Patric and his penchant for playing sexually aggressive misogynistic assholes. He’s fucking fierce when he does it, but it’s almost frighteningly real and rather strange that he’s getting typecast into this role (most recently in “Expired,” but how can anyone forget that shower scene in, Neil LaBute’s “Your Friends & Neighbors”? A mordantly amazing scene in an otherwise mirthless film). And make note, Wong Kar-Wai’s lauded cinematographer Christopher Doyle lensed this one.

Anywho, a new poster has arrived and yes, one dark, NSFW and marginally fucked-up trailer has already arrived, but here’s a more recent one.

Official synopsis: When Albert Stockwell (Rufus Sewell, Dark City, Illuminata) comes home from work one day, he finds a note from his wife of 15 years, Nancy (Maria Bello, A History of Violence, Thank You for Smoking), saying she has gone to see friends. After waiting several days, Albert realizes that his wife is missing. Nancy has met her salvation on the Internet in the form of Louis Farley (Jason Patric, The Lost Boys, Rush). Nancy and Louis, both wounded souls, take comfort in one another through e-mail, pictures, and promises of perverse sexual encounters. Nancy has finally found the one and only thing that can liberate her from the pain in her life. While she pursues the freedom that she feels will only come with ultimate liberation, Albert is left to put the pieces together and try to salvage what is left.

Previously due at the end of May, “Downloading Nancy” is due in theaters June 5, 2009. And note the earliest version of this trailer featured classic songs by Brian Eno, Johnny Cash and Hans Zimmer’s tribute to Carl Orff’s “Musica Poetica” (featured in “True Romance” and “Badlands” respectively). Why these songs aren’t in the new trailer is anyone’s guess, but our speculation would be licensing. Maybe they’ll end up in the film? Bueller?
