Jan Kwiecinski & Alexei Fedorchenko Join Harmony Korine In Forthcoming Omnibus
It has already been a busy year for Harmony Korine but his calendar keeps filling up further, and that’s just fine by us. He’s teamed with James Franco on some kind of street gang project, premiered his short film collaboration with Die Antwoord “Umshini Wam,” created an ad for Indian megacorp Mahindra, and is working on a short film with Val Kilmer that will form part of a Dogme-esque omnibus film. We’ll have more on that in a second, but it appears there is yet another project Korine has been working on.
As you might remember, last year, Korine paired up with fashion label Proenza Schouler and created the short “Act Da Fool” to help promote their fall campaign. And though it was first and foremost advertising for their clothing, there was no doubt the finished product was also a Korine project through and through, utilizing the same scrappy found footage aesthetic as his awesome “Trash Humpers.” Well, it looks like they liked working together as Korine has completed another short for the label, this time entitled “Snowballs,” and /Film has unveiled two pretty nifty posters for the film. We’re anxious to see what Korine brings to their “Southwestern” line of clothes for the fall, and we won’t have to wait too long to see the result. The four-minute “Snowballs” will hit the web at 4 PM on Tuesday, September 27 over at the Proenza Schouler website.
And now back to the Korine/Kilmer project. Screen Daily has revealed that Russian helmer Alexsei Fedorchenko (“Silent Souls“) and Polish director Jan Kwiecinski will be completing the other two segments of the omnibus, with each filmmaker shooting thirty-minute segments. As was previously reported, there are a number of awesome/random rules the directors must follow.
“At the heart of the brief is the notion of the ‘Fourth Dimension’. Each director was asked to explore what a ‘Fourth Dimension’ might be. What is it? Where is it? What does it look and sound like? What we got back from the filmmakers was in turns intense, hilarious, poignant and completely without precedent,” producer Eddie Moretti teased about the project.
Backed by Grolsch beer, the finished film will premiere at film festivals next year sponsored by the lager in each of the directors’ respective home countries: The San Francisco Film Festival in the U.S., the Beat Film Festival in Russia and Mlodzi i Film in Poland. Anyway, if you missed “Act Da Fool” you can watch it below and check out the two full posters for “Snowballs.”
