Who would ever guess that we would ever see the day that Seth Rogen created something that does not revolve around marijuana? Well, doubters be damned, because the day has come. In fact, it’s almost gone. “Preacher” returns for its fourth and final season on Aug. 4.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the AMC show is based on a ‘90s comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. The comic book series was plagued with rumors of feature film and television adaptations for more than 15 years before Rogen got his hands on it. In 2014, Rogen and his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg announced that, after seven years of effort, their adaptation would hit the big screen. The duo credited their success for winning the rights to the show to the fact that they never shut up about their love of the “Preacher” comics.

“Preacher” found a home on AMC, with its first season premiering in 2016. Sam Catlin developed the show with the duo, along with serving as its showrunner. Rogen and Goldberg executive produced the previous three seasons, and even directed a few episodes here and there.

Season 4 will continue the story of a preacher enlisting the help of a vampire and his ex-girlfriend to find God, after experiencing a supernatural event at his church. Dominic Cooper stars as preacher Jesse Custer, with Ruth Negga playing his ex Tulip, and Joseph Gilgun as vampire Cassidy. Custer, Negga, and Gilgun have all returned for the final “Preacher” season.

According to AMC, “In Season 4, Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy’s thrill-ride to find God thrusts them into a twisted battle spanning Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.” ScreenRant digs a little deeper into the potential plotline of the final “Preacher” season, “Based on the season 3 finale; it looks like Preacher season 4’s story will be about Jesse and Tulip trying to rescue Cassidy from the clutches of The Grail.”
