Netflix's 'Punisher' Season 2 To Hit In January (Before Being Canceled In February?)

Saying goodbye is always hard. And kicking off 2019 is a new major Marvel TV premiere that is also the signal that the end is near for yet another Netflix/Marvel collaboration.

According to Netflix (via comicbook.com), the streaming service has signaled that January 2019 will be the month that Season 2 of “The Punisher” arrives. Why is the arrival of a new season of Frank Castle’s murder spree something to be sad about? Especially since Season 1 was met with fairly favorable reviews?

Well, you see, over the last couple months, Netflix has systematically canceled three Marvel TV series, including “Iron Fist,” “Luke Cage,” and “Daredevil,” leaving only “The Punisher” and “Jessica Jones” left standing. This has led to rampant speculation that Netflix is only keeping those shows around because they have already created a new season of the former and are currently in production on Season 3 of the latter series. What will likely happen is that “The Punisher” Season 2 and “Jessica Jones” Season 3 will premiere on the service, only to be canceled unceremoniously a month or so after.

So yeah, fans of the first season of “The Punisher” should be excited for a new season of the series. However, it’ll definitely be bittersweet knowing that the series will likely be canceled and there will be no series finale or movie to end the story.

All that’s left is the hope that Marvel and Disney will decide to continue the adventures of Frank Castle (likely without actor Jon Bernthal) on another platform in the future.

Season 2 of “The Punisher” is expected to premiere in January 2019, followed by fan outrage and sadness a month or so later when Netflix announces the series’ cancellation. Plan your lives accordingly.
