Now that Harvey Weinstien and the Weinstein Company apparently don’t want to – or can’t – finance Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards,” because of their own reported monetary woes, the chatterboxing filmmaker is apparently taking his script around Hollywood looking for someone else to be his patron saint.
The script apparently went out yesterday to Universal, Warner Bros, Paramount and Sony. If Tarantino is still in the process of looking for a sugar daddy studio to father his newest baby, that probably means that Cannes 2009 promise is looking more and more implausible. Still no mention of ‘Bastards’ being two separate films and that’s because it’s almost positively not going to be two halves despite the reports to the contrary. [DeadlineHollywood]
Update: Hold the phone Ms. Finke at Deadline Hollywood now says Brad Pitt is in talks to star in the picture. However, her original report is incorrect. She initially made out the Weinsteins to be indigent, but now she’s backpedaling a little and says the Weinstein’s will (co)produce the film (with Lawrence Bender, the producer on all QT vehicles) and that Weinco is looking for a major studio (as in one of the aforementioned ones) to co-finance the picture (in exchange for foreign rights). A Hollywood Reporter piece also confirms that the Weinstein Co. are co-producing, that the project is aiming to shoot in October, and it’s being fast-tracked so Tarantino can make Cannes 2009. Whoa, could this actually happen? Cast, shoot, edit and lock in under 10 months? Hey, Oliver Stone is aiming to do it in almost half that time. Anything’s possible? We may have to start warming up our shoe…
