First announced nearly a year-and-a-half ago, we kinda plain forgot about “My Cousin Rachel.” And given that the movie is being released without much fanfare (no festival bow at least), we’re a bit cautious. But frankly, a sweeping period picture starring Rachel Weisz and based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier is sort of my jam, so there will be at least one ticket sold no matter what.

Sam Claflin co-stars in the film directed by Roger Michell (“Le Week-End,” “Hyde Park On Hudson“) that tracks the path of vengeance taken by an orphan against his cousin. Here’s the official synopsis:
A dark romance, MY COUSIN RACHEL tells the story of a young Englishman who plots revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian. But his feelings become complicated as he finds himself falling under the beguiling spell of her charms.
