Random: Ashanti Has A New Song On The 'Dream House' Soundtrack, Listen To It Here

It’s probably safe to say by this point that Jim Sheridan‘s “Dream House” with Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts is a bit of a mess. With the film delayed from a previously planned February release due to reshoots, it arrives next week in theaters with little fanfare. The trailer was released in the middle of the summer to little response, and pretty much gave up every twist in the movie, playing like a poor man’s “Shutter Island.” Meanwhile, CinemaBlend had reported that behind the scenes neither the director (who apparently had the movie taken away from him) nor the cast are pleased with the final result, which may be why there is a curious lack of press just ten days from its release. But just when you thought the minor-key saga of “Dream House” couldn’t any weirder, there’s this.

Remember Ashanti? The R&B singer was a sensation about a decade ago thanks to hits like “Foolish” and “Rock wit U (Awww Baby)” but since then has fallen in popularity with her last album The Declaration in 2008 being her worst-selling to date. Moreover, her attempts to transition to a big screen career stalled out in 2007 after her stint in “Resident Evil: Extinction.” She’s plotting a comeback with rumors of a new album, but unfortunately for her, a new song “Never Too Far Away” is now inextricably linked to this horror/thriller. We’re not sure who thought it was a good idea to pair Ashanti with “Dream House” and even listening to the song, you can tell it’s simply some kind of corporate synergy decision made by a few guys in a boardroom, gone horribly awry.

Anyway, if you’re an Ashanti fan, the single is now available on iTunes and will only set you back 99 cents. As for the rest of us, we’re guessing this is the song that will play over the end credits when the film opens on September 30th. [Fresh Like Dougie]
