We are one step closer to seeing a brand new Clarice Starling come to life. Back in January, it was announced that CBS had ordered a pilot for a new series titled, “Clarice,” which would serve as a sequel of sorts to “The Silence of the Lambs.” And now, it appears that CBS has found the young woman that will take over for Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore in one of the most iconic roles in pop culture.
According to Variety, actress Rebecca Breeds has landed the role of Clarice Starling in the upcoming CBS crime drama series. As mentioned, “Clarice” aims to take a look at the iconic FBI agent after she meets Hannibal Lecter and her world gets turned upside down. The series follows a version of Starling that is described in the report as “brilliant and vulnerable” and someone that possesses “an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her.”
Breeds is probably best known for her role on the Australian series “Home and Away.” In the US, her biggest roles have been on series such as “Pretty Little Liars” and “The Originals.” Most recently, she’s starred in an episode of “The Brave.”
“Clarice” comes from the minds of Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, who serve as writers and executive producers on the series. Kurtzman, of course, is the current man in charge of CBS’ new “Star Trek” series that have populated the All Access streaming service. However, he and Lumet teamed up on the much-maligned film, “The Mummy.” Lumet is also the writer of “Rachel Getting Married.”
While still in the early stages of development, production is now looming on the pilot for “Clarice.” And if everything goes well, we could be seeing the ‘Silence’ sequel series arriving sometime later this year.
