Deadline Hollywood reports that Columbia Pictures is developing the romantic comedy “The Pioneer Woman,” as a potential vehicle for Reese Witherspoon.
Based on the real life blog of the same name by Ree Drummond, the film will chronicle her true story of “how a detour on a trip from L.A. to Chicago led her to Oklahoma. There, she met the cowboy of her dreams and transformed from spoiled city girl to domestic ranch wife.” Drummond’s site apparently has a quite a following, has spawned a cookbook as well as a collection of her “homespun tales,” “Black Heels to Tractor Wheels” which will hit book stores next Valentine’s Day.
Columbia seem eager to repeat the success of their parent company Sony’s success with “Julie & Julia” last year. That hit film was based on blog-turned-book-turned-movie and spawned yet another Oscar nod for Meryl Streep and this project seems to be very much in the same wheelhouse.
