Reese Witherspoon To Star In Live Action Tinker Bell Movie

Reese Witherspoon Peter Pan TinkerbellThere’s more than one way to tackle a public domain property, and Hollywood is having its way with Peter Pan. This fall, Warner Bros. will unveil Joe Wright‘s "Pan," while the industry has a couple more projects in development, including a revisionist take at Sony with Channing Tatum attached to star and a TV show called "The League Of Pan." Now you can add one more to the pile from the studio who is making rehashing old properties into an art form.

Reese Witherspoon will produce and star in "Tink," which, as you can guess by the title, will be a movie centered around Tinker Bell. Victoria Strouse ("Finding Dory") is penning the script for the Disney project, though there are no plot details just yet. The studio has had massive success on the direct-to-video market with the character, with a strong handful of movies, so in many ways this was probably the next logical step.

The project joins "Mulan," "Beauty & The Beast," "Dumbo," and "The Jungle Book," in their growing slate of live action fairy tale movies. But Disney won’t be the first to bring the character to live action reality. Steven Spielberg did it perhaps most famously in 1991 with "Hook," with Julia Roberts tossing around the fairy dust. "Tink" is a bit of a ways off as it needs to find a director, but given Disney’s live action success, they probably won’t let this one sit around too long. [THR]
