Reese Witherspoon To Star In 'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus' Directed By Commercials Helmer Bryan Buckley

nullIf that bit of Reese Witherspoon news is old, forgive us, because the last time we paid attention to the big screen adaptation of this book/punch line was waaaaay back in 2010 when Summit picked up the rights and then we forgot about it. But even though no one gave a shit about "What To Expect When You're Expecting" (even though it sold millions upon millions of copies), it seems Lionsgate (who now own Summit) think this is still a good idea.

Deadline reports that Witherspoon will lead the movie adaptation of the scientifically accurate "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" that now has a director in commercials helmer Bryan Buckley, whose name might not be familiar, but you've undoubtedly seen his work. Winner of a plethora of awards, he's been behind numerous Super Bowl spots, those new Siri ads, celeb spots for American Express and more. So if this movie has a lot of product placement, dude is going to nail it. Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, who have paired on such classic gender war comedies like "Leap Year" and "Made Of Honor," have penned the script though no plot details are available at the moment. But we'll take a flying stab in the dark that it will be a piercing look into the gulf that divides men and women, and the harrowing journey to bridge that galactic gap….BUT WITH LAUGHS AND JOKES ABOUT EATING ICE CREAM WHEN YR SAD. But if they actually set this in outer space, maybe we'd be more interested.

We suppose Witherspoon has to do something commercial after spending this summer shooting the far more substanial West Memphis Three drama "The Devil's Knot" with Atom Egoyan, but we thought she could make smarter choices than this. Production will kick off in January.
