Have you read our feature on 13 Of The Best Mind-Bending Movies yet? Well, you might want to get on that and start adding some of those movies to your Netflix queue, because one of them is starting down the remake path.
THR reveals that Adrian Lyne‘s cult horror fave “Jacob’s Ladder” is going to be put through the Hollywood meat grinder and brought forth for a new age. The original film, directed by Adrian Lyne and starring Tim Robbins, told the bleak story of a Vietnam veteran suffering from nightmarish hallucinations who loses his grip on reality as he tries to uncover the source of these visions. It was pretty intense stuff, even back in 1990. Now it’s getting a do-over thanks to LD Entertainment and “Midnight Meat Train” writer Jeff Buhler, who is going to deliver a brand new script. But are they doing to tarnish the original?
Well, presumably not, as this new update is being sold as an homage instead of a direct remake. Apparently, the film will “contemporize the story with new situations and characters” while presenting “existential questions.” No, really. But then it just prompts the question…why call it a remake or even use the rights to that title to get it made? From this description, the only thing getting remade is the title, which we presume will be in a cool new font or something. But maybe producers Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig know what they’re doing. After all, they did re-launch “Fright Night” to great acclaim…right…?
