Does anyone still listen to Paul Potts? In case you forgot, he made a brief cultural splash a few years ago when he showed up on "Britain's Got Talent" and wowed audiences Susan Boyle-style, leading to a brief run of concerts and fame, before everyone moved to something else. But a movie about his life was in the works anyway, and the last we heard about it was all the way back in the fall of 2010, when "The Devil Wears Prada" director David Frankel was attached to direct. Well, belive it or not, this thing is still happening.
The New York Post caught up with Harvey Weinstein, who's got some big ambitions on who he wants to play the singer's wife. “I was talking to Katy [Perry] about a new project, a possible dramatic role in the Paul Potts movie, which will be shooting in England soon. We’d really like someone like Katy or Adele to play the role of Potts’ wife, and Katy seemed genuinely interested,” he said.
The movie, entitled "One Chance," is said to be a comedy tracking the life of Potts from his youth as a chubby kid (no, we're not being mean, that was in the logline) to an adult who developed a passion for opera and then became a big reality TV star as a result. Now, why on Earth Harvey is insisting on a pop star to play his wife Julie-Ann — whom he met in an internet chat room before he became famous — we're not quite sure, unless there are going to be some severe liberties taken with the story. And speaking from a purely superficial standpoint, Adele is probably more suited to play the plus sized Julie-Ann, but frankly, we don't see either singer taking the gig.
No word yet on who will play Potts himself, but negotiations are apparently underway, and we presume Harv wants this to roll sometime this year.
