Right around the beginning of the year, “Evil Dead” was marked down as one of the big, highly anticipated horror flicks of the summer. The Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell-produced and approved redo of their seminal ’80s movie was promising buckets of blood (which it delivered), gore (ditto), a hard-R rating (yup) and a fresh take on the story. The result? Well, a movie that seemed to miss everything that made the original such a cult classic to the begin with. But now’s your chance to give it a second chance or give a first spin if you missed it in theaters.
The first ten minutes of “Evil Dead” have dropped online in advance of its home video release, and you’re going to want to watch this at work. It starts with a flashback sequence that essentially establishes the creepy background as to why the cabin in the woods becomes a freak fest, before cutting back to the present day and introducing us to Jane Levy and everyone else who gets caught up in the drug detox trip gone awry. Were critics too hard on it the first time around? Did you like it? Are you going to give it another spin?
Tell us below. “Evil Dead” hits DVD and Blu-ray on July 16th. [STYD]
