The only question facing Universal right now is just how much of the $626 million worldwide made by “Fast Five” will be matched or exceeded by “Fast & Furious 6.” There is really no doubt it’s going to be a monster hit at this point, because no matter where you stand on this series, or whether or not you’re a film snob, Vin Diesel driving the car out of the front of a jetplane is fucking awesome. Universal knows this, and that’s why they’re already looking ahead to next year.
The studio has dated “Fast & Furious 7” for a July 11, 2014 release date. Boom. “Saw” and “Insidious” helmer James Wan recently landed the directing gig after Justin Lin exited, citing the extremely tight deadline, which will see pre-production on the sequel starting shortly if it hasn’t already. There have already been some pretty spoiler-y rumors about what will connect the two movies and who the villain might be.
Lots more to come, but just know for know that Vin Diesel won’t leave you hanging for too long, bro. He’s set to return along with Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and Tyrese, according to Deadline.
