The Revolution Is Just The Beginning In New Trailer For 'Mr. Robot' Season 2 [Watch]

There’s a ton of TV out there right now, but it feels like a while since something really stepped up and became a true pop-culture obsession. We’re talking about shows like “The Sopranos,” “The X-Files” or “Breaking Bad” — shows that grace magazine covers and draw huge ratings, that everyone’s talking about the next day. There are a few shows of that kind today — “Game Of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead,” principally — but while there’s so much good stuff on, nothing’s quite had that slow-burning cult success since them.

Could “Mr. Robot” be the next one to hit? USA’s drama about a hacker (Rami Malek) and his attempts to take down an evil corporation with the help of a mysterious man named Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) premiered last summer to relatively little hype, but got a lot of buzz very quickly as one of the most visually impressive, cleverly written and distinctive shows out there (even if it wears its influences on its sleeves a little heavily).

With viewers having caught up on the show in the intervening year, and its themes of revolution more timely than ever in the Bernie Sanders era, could it be poised to blow up? A new trailer for the imminent second season just hit Buzzfeed, and it certainly suggests big things to come.

Picking up after the major cyber-attack launched by F Society, and introducing some new characters including an FBI agent played by Grace Gummer, it’s the usual anxious, tense stuff that saw people fall in love with the series to begin with. Directed, entirely this time around, by creator Sam Esmail, the second season will now have more episodes than planned, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that the order has been extended to 12 episodes. And, for the first time, a “Talking Dead”-style aftershow will follow the series premiere too. You can check it all out when the show returns in just a few weeks, on July 13th.
