Ricky Gervais Teaming With Ben Stiller For A New Film?

Ricky Gervais’ Hollywood ventures haven’t exactly replicated his successes with British television shows “The Office” and “Extras” but that won’t stop the him from trying.

Speaking with The Guardian, Gervais has revealed that he’s currently writing a new project with a mysterious collaborator. “Ben Stiller?” he responded when asked, though it’s unclear if he’s “havin’ a laugh” or honestly dropping names with a bit of tongue-in-cheek.

Considering their pedigrees, however, it wouldn’t be a surprising teaming — both specialize in a similar form of comedy, have developed successful careers both in front and behind the camera, have collaborated on numerous occasions in the past including Gervais’ “Extras” and Stiller’s ‘Night At The Museum’ sequel and seem to be genuine friends outside their professional relationship.

So what could this project be? We’ll be honest — we haven’t got the slightest idea but hope it’s some sort of original project that could excitingly combine the talents of the two. As it stands, none of the pair’s current projects makes a lot of sense for this teaming. Stiller has the African-set comedy “Help Me Spread Goodness” that was supposed to start production sometime this year while Gervais, who has seen his film “Cemetery Junction” hit with the dreaded direct-to-DVD treatment, will return to the BBC with a Warwick Davis-led comedy, a fictionalized take on the dwarf-sized actor’s life.
