Young people have disposable incomes. Lots of it. So is it any wonder that Hollywood is eager to keep the YA adaptation train rolling? Even though for every “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games” smash hit there have been roughly two or three more big misses, it seems the dice will keep being played and today two more projects are brewing.
First up, Ridley Scott has snatched up the rights to “Fae” by Colet and Jasmine Abedi. The first in a trilogy (of course), the story centers on sixteen year old Caroline Ellis who is tossed into a “battle fated for centuries between the Dark and Light Fae, forcing her to confront who she is and discover whether her tumultuous relationship with Devilyn Reilly, who’s battling the power of the Dark within him, will destroy them both along with humanity.” Yeah, basically the same plot as every other YA book. But don’t worry that Scott will waste his time directing this; he’s only slated to produce.
Meanwhile, MTV is bringing Terry Brooks‘ “Shannara” to the small screen, with a script-to-series order. And Jon Favreau has been tapped to direct the pilot of the futuristic story, “centered on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world.” For Favreau, it’s another TV gig following pilot launches for “About A Boy” and “Revolution,” so we reckon he sees it as a way to keep his chops honed.
