Rob Minkoff’s bank-heist comedy “Flypaper” has topped off its cast with an eclectic gang of somewhat familiar faces, with production slated to begin this week.
Pruitt Taylor Vince, Mekhi Phifer, John Ventimiglia, Matt Ryan, Greg Germann, Octavia Spencer and Jeffrey Tambor will now join the story of a bank robbed by two groups of crooks at the same time, both of whom come under attack by a secret enemy looking to save the bank teller he loves. Patrick Dempsey, Ashley Judd and Tim Blake Nelson were previously revealed as the film’s leads.
While it simply sounds like another run-of-the-mill ensemble comedy particularly with a television star and rom-com specialist in the leads, the script is from “The Hangover” duo Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, providing some hope for a worthwhile feature. That said, Minkoff is definitely no Todd Phillips with recent directorial efforts including the Jet Li-Jackie Chan union in “The Forbidden Kingdom” and not only one, but two of the ‘Stuart Little’ films.
Production began this week in Louisiana with star Dempsey also producing alongside Peter Safran, Mark Damon, Joannie Burstein and Tamara Stuparich de la Barra.
