Two guys who are expected to have a pretty big fall film season are Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf. The former is starring in what might be the most-anticipated film of the fall, “The Irishman,” as well as the superhero film that is getting Oscar buzz, “Joker.” The latter just saw his festival hit “The Peanut Butter Falcon” arrive in theaters and will next be seen in the pseudo-biopic “Honey Boy.” Now, for their next project, it appears that De Niro and LaBeouf are going to team up for “After Exile.”
According to Deadline, the duo has signed on to star in the upcoming film “After Exile,” which is set to be directed by Joshua Michael Stern. “After Exile” is co-written by Anthony Thorne and Michael Tovo, based on the true story of Tovo’s life.

“After Exile” stars LaBeouf as a just-released convict, who murdered a man during a violent robbery. Now, released from prison, he must work along with his ex-criminal father (De Niro) to help steer his younger brother away from a life of drugs and crime.
Stern is probably best known for his work as the director of the Steve Jobs biopic “Jobs.” No, not the Michael Fassbender one. We’re talking the Ashton Kutcher film from 2013. He was also the writer and director of episodes of “Graves,” which is the short-lived EPIX series starring Nick Nolte. Co-writer Thorne is a producer who has previously worked on the film “Tragedy Girls,” but also co-wrote and produced “Badge of Honor.”
There’s no word on when we might expect “After Exile” to be released, but production on the crime drama is expected to begin in October, pointing to a 2020 release date.
