Last we heard, Sandra Bullock had signed on to join Alfonso Cuaron‘s ailing sci-fi thriller “Gravity,” but now doubts are being raised about whether or not long-attached co-star Robert Downey Jr., will stay on board the film.
Deadline reports that the increasing delays are wreaking havoc with RDJ’s very busy schedule and he may end up bailing on the film completely. With “The Avengers” shooting early in 2011 and “Oz The Great And Powerful” on deck (though he’s not yet officially signed on for the latter), scheduling RDJ’s three weeks of work (his role is small; the film will mostly be a one woman show for Bullock) on the film is apparently becoming a bit of headache. The original plan was for RDJ to shoot his scenes in “Gravity” during a break in filming on “Sherlock Holmes 2,” but apparently, it will now have to come after that film wraps and with “The Avengers” rolling in February, the window of opportunity for RDJ is shrinking fast. Warner Bros. is denying these early reports, while Deadline paints a darker picture, saying that Bullock is lobbying for RDJ to stick with the picture.
Bullock can add our voice as well, because while we’re eager to see the film, we fear what any more delays and casting switch-ups will do to the project which already seems to have outlived its nine lives during the hellish process to get it in front of cameras. C’mon, RDJ, we know you can find three weeks in your schedule, and honestly, in your plate of upcoming projects this is the one we’re most interested in. We hope Cuaron, Warner Bros and RDJ can work something out, and we presume lengthy discussions are already underway. Warner Bros. will not want to lose RDJ from the film and we’re sure they will explore every avenue possible to keep him on board.
