Robert Rodriguez Wants Mel Gibson & Michelle Williams For 'Machete Kills'

nullThe honor for Most Surprising Sequel Announcement Of 2012 was briefly held by "Anchorman 2" until yesterday afternoon when out of nowhere, Robert Rodriguez and company revealed that production on the long developing, forever talked about "Sin City" followup — now titled "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" — was going to go in front of cameras with casting to start next week. And that news nearly made us forget about the other sequel Rodriguez is gearing up, "Machete Kills," and once again, he's hoping to land some big names.

In addition to running the announcement regading 'A Dame To Kill For,' Deadline added an intriguing little nugget, noting that Robert Rodriguez was hoping to land Mel Gibson and Michelle Williams for roles in the movie. Lord knows, Gibson is once again in need of image rehab with the latest allegations of his Jew-hating ways coming in a highly charged letter from Joe Ezsterhas that leaked to the web (and he's since gone on "Today" to talk about it, claiming he has video of one of Gibson's tirades). So if the role is one that could help get him back in the good graces of audiences, we could see him being game. But remember, when Todd Phillips tried to use him in "The Hangover Part II" the cast and crew openly revolted, forcing the director to replace Gibson. So, we'll see.

As for Michelle Williams? We don't see it happening. She's long been talking about taking a break over the next little while, though maybe if it's something small and fun and off the beaten path enough, she'll give it a whirl. But we sorta doubt it. But needless to say, these are just a couple of surprises Rodriguez has in store.

"Machete Kills" starts filming this month and will probably carve up screens next year.
