Robin Williams To Join Cast Of Wedding Comedy 'Gently Down The Stream'?

Film roles for Robin Williams have been few and far between over the past decade with the ’90’s box-office monster mostly limiting himself to independent fare or supporting roles (and we’ll politely forget “Old Dogs” ever existed). While it’s not exactly a major leading role or anything, the comedian now looks set to edge closer to the spotlight starring alongside some big names for “The Bucket List” helmer Justin Zackham‘s upcoming wedding comedy “Gently Down The Stream.”

Showbiz411 reports that, at the premiere of HBO‘s “True Blood” last night, Amanda Seyfried let slip that Williams is set to feature in the film which also stars Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl and Topher Grace.

De Niro and Keaton are lined up for the leading roles in the pic, which follows a dysfunctional divorced couple who pretend to still be together during their adopted son’s wedding for the sake of the birth mother. No word on which of the actresses (Heigl or Seyfried) will be taking the bride role but Grace is presumably the groom. So where does that leave Williams? Maybe the father of the bride?

We’re not sure why Williams fell off the radar after that early-’00’s double of “Insomnia” and “One Hour Photo” (obviously, there were some health-related problems involved) but it’s good to see him amongst a cast of this caliber. “Gently Down The Stream” is being backed by Millennium Films along side Zackham’s company, Two Ton Films, with lensing set to begin this July in Connecticut.
