As you may have heard, Roman Polanski has been moved out of jail, but it’s not because he’s been freed or any beneficial reasons for his case.
Even Polanski’s French lawyer doesn’t know much but said on Saturday said he was moved from his prison detention to undergo an unspecified medical treatment.
All I know is that he has been taken from prison for medical attention. I don’t know where he is or when he will be returned to prison,” he said.
Doesn’t sound good as Polanski has been reportedly feeling depression and anxiety in prison and is 76-years-old though is said to be a sprightly man in good condition (we’ll always remember an Adrien Brody anecdote from “The Pianist” about how he asked the director how he would pull off a stunt climbing down the drainage pipe of a dilapidated house and a frustrated Polanski said, “you do it like this!” and pulled off the stunt himself to illustrate to Brody how easy it was).
Details were scarce until today, although the source of the problem is still unknown. According to People magazine however, it’s the second time the director has been hospitalized since his September 26 arrest and says Swiss papers reported that he had been admitted during the week of Oct. 5 for X-rays.
And it’s apparently an old, pre-existing condition.”His general condition is no longer satisfactory,” his French lawyer Herve Temime recently said in a Radio interview about his deteriorating health . “But the situation isn’t easy for any prisoner, even less so for a man the age of Polanski. One has to be attentive.”
According to Reuters U.S. judicial sources have said the complex extradition process could take years if Polanski challenges it. They have 60 days to make a firm extradition request and one assumes they’ve already submitted it.
