Confirmed: Rooney Accidentally Reveal That Benicio del Toro Stars in Sofia Coppola's 'Somewhere'

Did L.A. power pop band Rooney just accidentally reveal that Benicio del Toro now has a part in Sofia Coppola’s Chateau Marmont hotel dramedy, “Somewhere“? The band evidently have a cameo in the film. The band’s lead singer Robert Schwartzman, is Jason Schwartzman’s younger brother and is a cousin of Coppola’s.

“We spent the day at the world famous Chateau Marmont on the set of the new Sofia Coppola film, Somewhere. The movie stars Stephen Dorf and Benicio Del Toro,” the band wrote on their website.

The film is centered around a bad-boy actor (Stephen Dorff) who is wasting away in the celebrity-clad Chateau Marmont when his estranged 11 year-old daughter (Elle Fanning) shows up for an unexpected visit, so it is conceivable that del Toro is just doing a cameo as himself, no?

Either way, Benicio del Toro appearing in “Somewhere” in some capacity it seems. The film is due in theaters sometime in 2010. [via Movieline]

Update: Movieline confirms the report through Focus Features who are putting out the film. Del Toro’s role “involves a brief run-in with Dorff’s actor at the historic hotel.” We figured as much (essentially, after all, remember Spike Jonze, errr… Giovanni Ribisi in “Lost In Translation”?)
