Rooney Mara To Star In Adaptation Of Colm Toibin's 'Brooklyn' Penned By Nick Hornby

nullAnd the hits just keep on coming for Rooney Mara. Just a day after she signed up for a role in Spike Jonze's untitled upcoming movie, she's now landed another project that will find the actress at the front and center of a big league book adaptation.

THR reports that Mara will star in "Brooklyn," an adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Colm Toibin that has none other than Nick Hornby ("High Fidelity," "About A Boy," "An Education") penning the screenplay. The story follows Ellis Lacey, a young Irish woman in the 1950s who is unable to find work at home and is presuaded by Father Flood to emigrate to New York. Her initial stint in the Big Apple is dry, as her life revolves around work in a department store, night school for bookkeeping and she is confined by the strict rules of the boarding house in which she lives. She soon falls in love with an Italian plumber, but a letter from back home changes her life all over again.

The project is moving along with a planned spring 2013 shoot. All told, another feather in Mara's impressive cap which is looking like this: Fincher –> Soderbergh –> Jonze –> Malick –> to this project. Not a bad run at all.
