When Marvel introduced the idea of Inhumans in “Agents of SHIELD,” comic book fans cried foul. The characters in ‘SHIELD’ were not the superhero royal family that Marvel-heads knew and loved. Well, ABC and Marvel are hoping to fix that with “Marvel’s Inhumans,” which finally gives viewers an introduction to the Inhuman Royal Family. Here’s the first synopsis from Marvel
The Inhumans, a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. “Marvel’s The Inhumans” will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.
The first trailer doesn’t give much away: we hear Maximus (Iwan Rheon), the show’s villain plotting with another character, but we otherwise just really get the logo. Still, given how the first-look image yesterday went down, maybe not showing the characters is for the best at this point…
‘Inhumans’ tells the story of a group of secluded people called, you guessed it, Inhumans. These beings are human/alien hybrids with superhuman powers that were a result of genetic tinkering centuries ago. They’ve lived in Attilan, outside of human control, where they have had a peaceful existence. The Inhumans are governed by a superpowered monarchy, with their own requisite amount of bickering and backstabbing like any other royal family. Think “Game of Thrones” but with superheroes.
The series stars Anson Mount, Serinda Swan, Iwan Rheon, Ken Leung, and Eme Ikwuakor. “Marvel’s Inhumans” has TV veteran Scott Buck along as showrunner, fresh off his similar role for the Marvel/Netflix series “Iron Fist.”
“Marvel’s Inhumans” debuts its first two episodes in IMAX beginning September 1 before debuting on the small screen September 26.
