Ruben Fleischer Adds Buddy Cop Action Comedy To His Plate Of Potential Projects

After the smash success of “Zombieland,” director Ruben Fleischer has had no shortage of projects to choose from and just a few days ago, we reported that he was eyeing the Black List favorite “30 Minutes Or Less” with Danny McBride and was even offered the director’s chair of the upcoming “Mission: Impossible IV.”

Now THR reports that another potential project has cropped up, as Fleischer is attached to direct a currently untitled buddy cop action comedy flick based on his own idea. The creaky genre has had more than its fair share of directors and writers trying to “reinvent” or “refresh” the genre (ie. Kevin Smith’s “Cop Out”) so Fleischer is really going to have to bring something new to the table to garner our attention.

The project is currently set up at DreamWorks, who won a bidding war for the film. Mike Arnold and Chris Poole, who both wrote “The Grackle,” a one time David O. Russell project with Matthew McConaughey set to star, penning the script. Nicholas Stoller is producing along with “Zombieland” producer Gavin Polone.

There’s still no word on which film will actually come next, though we would guess a film based on your idea is probably more exciting than sitting in the director’s chair telling Tom Cruise to run away from something.
