You may have forgotten, but originally, "Captain America: Civil War" was scheduled to open on the same weekend as "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" — May 6, 2016. Marvel honcho Kevin Feige held fast, and said he wasn’t going to be moving their movie. "…we are doing what we’ve always done, which is sticking to our plan and sticking to our vision for the movies going forward and we have a very large vision that we’re working on for ‘Cap 3’ and for all the threes movies and just because another movie plops down onto one of ours doesn’t mean we are going to alter that. Maybe we should, but we’re not going to," he said at the time. Eventually, ‘Dawn Of Justice’ got out of the way and moved ahead to March, but it seems Marvel might’ve found another way to mess with their rivals.
Nothing is officially confirmed just yet, but according to Comic Book, Marvel and Netflix have slated "Daredevil" season 2 to launch on March 25th, which just happens to be the same day that "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" opens in cinemas. Oh no! Judging by some reactions on the internet, this is nothing short of provocation, but believe it or not, you can actually watch both things on the same weekend. Really and truly.
Looking at things pragmatically, Netflix shows tend to be a long tail game. While, yes, there are people who will put on jogging pants, turn off their mobiles, and endure ten straight hours of television, just as many will watch a couple of episodes and then go do something else… Like maybe go see ‘Dawn Of Justice.’ Basically, Netflix and Marvel want strong advance buzz, so that even if audiences don’t show up to "Daredevil" season 2 on the first day, the reviews and chatter will entice them to check it out in the weeks ahead.
On the other hand, if anyone at Marvel is concerned about the ever present topic of #superherofatigue rearing its head, this is a pretty good way to ensure those think pieces get written (again). And it might not be the best idea to see two properties compete for chatter in the same lead up time. However, maybe Marvel is reserving April to stay focused on press for "Captain America: Civil War."
Either way, you can have your cake and eat it too so don’t fret if these both drop the same day.
