A little less than a decade ago, George Miller was within a hair’s breadth of directing a DC Comics movie — “Justice League Mortal,” a big budget take on Superman, Batman, et al. In 2007, Miller got as far as building sets in Australia, and cast all the major roles, with D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Common as Green Lantern, and Jay Baruchel as the villain, Maxwell Lord.
The movie was cancelled shortly before production got underway due to various factors, but it appears that fresh from “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Miller might be getting another chance to make his superhero movie. John Schnepp, the director of “The Death Of Superman Lives” (a documentary about Tim Burton’s earlier unmade DC Comics movie) was a guest on the DC Movie News Show (via Latino Review), and states that Miller is “doing” a sequel to Zack Snyder’s “Man Of Steel,” the first solo Superman movie in the new DC Universe after “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Justice League,” et al.

This rumor’s been brewing for a little while, but Schnepp is the first person to come out and say it in public, and while he’s not a Warner Bros. executive, he presumably has the contacts that suggest he hasn’t pulled it out of the air entirely. Is this a repeated rumor, or something more concrete? It’s too early to say, but it certainly makes sense: Miller’s very much part of the Warner Bros. family, and even if ‘Fury Road’ wasn’t a giant hit, it’s done well enough to make him a hot property once again.
It’s unclear where “Man Of Steel 2” fits in with the studio’s current plans — they’ve announced a number of movies, including two “Justice Leagues,” “Aquaman,” “Shazam,” “The Flash,” and “Green Lantern Corps,” but nothing solid on a solo Superman picture. But if this is legit, expect some firm news on it sooner rather than later.
